ICHM STUDY ABROAD PROGRAM

Why Study Abroad?

The ICHM Study Abroad Program is for those students already studying at another institution or university, who are looking for an overseas experience to complement their studies in their home country.

It is an opportunity to enhance the value of your degree, while at the same time develop new skills and experiences beyond your  familiar environment. Study Abroad programs allow you to experience different cultures, systems and methodologies; and they can actually help to increase your future employment opportunities.

What do you study?

ICHM’s academic program is registered in Higher Education, and includes four academic semesters and up to four Industry Placement semesters. The curriculum is of the latest industry and educational standards, and is comprised of about 40 subjects varying from an operational level through to an advanced management level.

With the Study Abroad Program, we invite students from all around the world to come to ICHM and study for six months and return home; or study for six months and then undertake a paid work placement in an Australian hotel for six months. The choice is yours!

Together with your own university or hotel school you can select 4 subjects (or more up to a maximum of 8) at different levels. You would commence the study late January or mid July, and work (if you wish) for the next 6 months.

Some students will prefer operational style subjects (Restaurant Service Standards, Professional Wine, Kitchen Operations) while others will prefer academic subjects (Human Resource Management, Revenue Management, e-Marketing & Distribution etc).

Each subject is 45 hours, and you can access the full Subject Descriptors here.

You will not get a qualification from ICHM, but will get credits that can be counted towards your studies at home.

Industry Placements

ICHM can arrange a six month work placement in a hotel in Australia or overseas. For details of location, positions, wages see the Industry Placement page.

Note that in Australia with wages of $15 per hour upwards, work placements are cash-flow positive.
